Sonam Malik, 18, of Haryana won the National Wrestling Championship in 2016 by defeating Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik. He won the gold medal by defeating Sakshi 7-5 in the 62kg category. This is Sonam's third consecutive victory over Sakshi. He also knocked out witnesses in the 2020 Asian Championships and Asian Olympic qualifiers.
Sonam is being touted as the new star of Indian wrestling. He beat the witness on the breath of his right arm lock. Sonam's right arm was paralyzed two years ago. It was because of this right hand that he was at stake at one point before his career began.
Sonam's father Raj said that after winning the World Championship in 2017, Sonam had a problem with her right hand. At first the coach thought this was a common injury and adopted all the desi method. With pain Sonam continued to participate in the home tournament. He was paralyzed during the 2018 state championships and then had to leave the tournament midway through.
Sonam was on bed rest for 6 months, the coach said. She couldn't even lift her hand. The doctors also accepted defeat and said that Sonam would have to give up her dream of wrestling. Sonam returned and won a gold medal at the World Cadet Wrestling Championships for the second time in 2019. He has already won the championship in 2017. Sonam is the first female wrestler to win the title twice. Before him, only Sushil Kumar has won the title twice.
